You’ve launched your shiny new website—cue the confetti! But before the internet throws you a welcome party, there's one small (but mighty) thing you need to do: tell Google you exist.
If you’re wondering how to submit your website to Google Search Console for indexing without spiraling into a tech-induced panic, you’re in the right place.
First, What Is Google Search Console?
Think of Google Search Console (GSC) as your website’s personal assistant for all things Google Search. It helps you:
Tell Google about your site
See how your pages are performing in search results
Fix indexing issues (aka the stuff that keeps your content from showing up)
And yes, it’s 100% free. We love a helpful, budget-friendly tool.
Step-by-Step: How to Submit Your Website to Google Search Console
1. Sign in to Google Search Console
Go to https://search.google.com/search-console and log in with your Google account. Preferably the same one you used for setting up your website tools (Analytics, Tag Manager, etc.).
2. Add Your Website Property
You’ll see two options:
Domain (example.com) – covers everything on your domain, including subdomains and HTTPS/HTTP.
URL prefix (https://www.example.com) – only covers that exact URL path.
For most folks, Domain is the better choice for comprehensive tracking—but it requires DNS verification (hang tight, we’ll walk you through that too).
3. Verify Your Site Ownership
Depending on the property type, Google will ask you to verify ownership in a few different ways:
Domain property: Add a TXT record to your DNS settings (via your domain host like GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.)
URL prefix: Options include uploading an HTML file, using a meta tag, Google Analytics, or Google Tag Manager.
Pro Tip: If DNS settings make your eyes glaze over, choose the URL prefix and verify via meta tag—it’s quick and painless.
4. Request Indexing (If Needed)
Want Google to index a specific page ASAP? Paste the page URL into the top search bar in GSC. If it’s not indexed yet, you’ll see an option to Request Indexing.
And voila—your page is now in line to get crawled by Google’s bots.
